Suspect Says He’s Armed During Robbery Attempt, Turns Out He Wasn’t, But His Intended Victim Was

STREAMWOOD, ILLINOIS — Being the last state in the country to allow concealed carry, it’s come in handy again for a law-abiding citizen.

18-year-old Konrad Janel, we’ll call him dum-dum, walked up to his intended victim in a backyard with his shirt covering his face, accompanied by a friend. Dum-dum told the man that he had a gun and demanded money and cigarettes.

It turns out that dum-dum didn’t have a gun, but his intended victim did indeed have a gun that he was legally carrying.

When the armed citizen drew his firearm, dum-dum took off running. His friend was captured and held down until police arrived, and he later identified his friend.

Dum-dum appears in court on May 21st.

Hopefully this young kid will get his act together and not continue down a path of self-destruction. Maybe he’s lucky that he encountered an armed citizen and now realizes that the next time he tries something like this . . . could be his last.
